Levi Strauss Buys Custom Clothing Technology

Levi Strauss and Company has acquired Custom Clothing Technology Corporation (CCTC), a Newton, Massachusetts based software company that developed the technology behind Levi's popular individually fitted Personal Pair jeans. Levis' VP said that the company is always looking for ways to better understand and serve consumers and that utilizing new technology gives them a competitive advantage.

CCTC will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Levi Strauss, and will retain its headquarters in Newton. The Personal Pair technology developed by the company utilizes a kiosk computer system installed in Levi's stores in Canada. Using the kiosk, a trained sales associate takes measurement s from the customer and plugs those into the computer which determines a prototype jean, which the customer then tries on and modifies accordingly. The order is then sent via modem to Levi's sewing facility in Tennessee where a pattern is generated and the jeans are constructed, then sent back to the store for pick-up or delivered to the customer's residence.
